In the endeavor to step-up waste collection management generated from its township, NTPC Talcher Kaniha is deploying fully automatic composting machines. The machines installed in Talcher Kaniha Township uses special micro-organisms to break down and decompose all kinds of organic waste into compost within 24 hrs with a volume reduction of 85-90%. Each composting machine can handle 25 kg of kitchen waste per day and produce 2.5 to 3 kgs of compost.Catered towards a special focus on environment protection, the station issues two dustbins to its Township households to ensure waste segregation at source. To encourage residents to segregate their waste in separate dustbins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable along with electronic waste disposal methods, awareness pamphlets were distributed.The inauguration of compost machines was done by Shri Sudip Nag, CGM, NTPC Kaniha in presence of Shri N.S Rao, GM (O&M) other GM’s, Shri L Kar ,AGM(Civil) Shri Manas Samantray ,DGM(Civil)senior officials and representatives of Union and Association.During the inaugural ceremony, Shri Nag took an elaborate view of the functioning of the compost machines and appreciated the efforts of the Civil Department in this direction. The newly installed food waste processing system intends to help in effective recycling of food waste to compost i.e from waste to resource. The available compost will be available for collection by the residents from its township nursery for use in home gardens.
